"I WILL DRAG YOU LIKE A SPARROW" (SHIRDI SAI BABA)

I will drag you like a sparrow

The Divine Visit to Sai Mandir Olst, The Netherlands – 20 September 2016

It was an ordinary Monday afternoon in Olst. The Mandir was quiet, the sky calm, and nothing suggested that a miracle was already unfolding thousands of miles away. Then the phone rang. When I answered, I heard the trembling voice of a woman calling from Washington D.C., USA — a stranger, yet someone who felt instantly familiar, as if Baba Himself had sent her. Her name was Miss Sreekrupa Sastry. She did not greet me with hesitation or formality. Her words came from a place far deeper:
“Sir… Om Sai Ram, I need Baba’s Darshan. I had a dream. Baba told me to come to Olst. I did not know such a Mandir existed… but it does. I found it on the internet. Please tell me… is the Mandir open tomorrow?”
Her urgency was palpable. Her faith was trembling but fierce, like a flame moving in the wind yet unwilling to go out. I explained softly that the Mandir is usually open on special days or on weekends, especially on Sundays. Tuesday was not one of those days. But her voice tightened, almost pleading:
“I cannot wait until Sunday. I feel I must come now, tomorrow. I will take a direct flight from Washington D.C. to Amsterdam… only for Baba’s Darshan… and return the next day.”
For a moment I was silent. Who flies across the world in 24 hours for a glimpse of Baba? Who leaves behind work, home, sleep, comfort — just to stand at His feet? Part of me wondered if this was real. Another part knew: When Baba calls, impossibilities dissolve. I gave her my mobile number. When the call ended, I stood there quietly. Something divine was moving.

The Next Morning: The Miracle Becomes Real

Tuesday began like any other day — until my phone beeped. A message from her. She had boarded the flight. She was already on her way to Amsterdam, Europe. By the time the day matured, she was on a train speeding toward Olst from Amsterdam, sending me updates from each station. Every message carried the same breathless devotion:
“I am coming, Sir. Baba is pulling me.”
Through the window of the train, she watched a foreign landscape rush by, her eyes fixed not on the scenery but on the invisible thread Baba had tied to her soul. I agreed to receive her at 17:00 at Olst station. When she stepped out of the train — jet-lagged, exhausted, but glowing with a strange serenity — I could feel the aura of someone who had surrendered completely to a divine command.

In the Presence of Baba

I brought her to Sai Mandir Olst. The moment she entered, she stopped as if her heart recognized a home her mind had never visited. She folded her hands. Her eyes filled with tears. Her breath trembled. She walked slowly, reverently, as though she feared the moment might dissolve like a dream. We prayed together. We performed Dhoop Aarti. We completed 108 Pradakshanas, each step slow, deliberate, full of surrender. We meditated. We shared Prasad. With every pray
Union
It was as if Baba had wrapped her in the same shawl of grace He used to drape around His devotees in Shirdi. Afterward, I drove her back to the station. Then she turned to me with a gentle smile and said something I will never forget:
“Even if the Mandir had been closed, I would still have come. I would have touched the doorstep… and returned. That alone would have been enough. Baba called me – and I had to come.”
The next morning, she flew back to Washington D.C. Her entire pilgrimage lasted barely twenty-four hours — yet it carried the weight and blessing of a lifetime.
Her Message After Returning Home
When she reached home, she wrote to me:
“Olst is my Shirdi ever since. I am blessed by Baba and grateful for everything He has given me. No matter how you feel, God’s word will create a miracle. Everything happened so fast, I still cannot believe it. I know now for certain that God performs miracles. For God, distance does not exist.”
In the Sai Satcharitra, Baba declares:
“I will draw my devotees to Me like sparrows with strings tied to their feet. No one can stop it.”
That day, in that story, across an ocean, this promise came alive. Shraddha – Saburi Om Sai Ram Etienne Bhagwan Premdani Chairman, Sai Mandir Olst – The Netherlands
