SAI BABA’S TEACHINGS

SAI BABA’S TEACHINGS

People who follow the teachings of Sai Baba are blessed. He proclaimed the importance of self-realization and criticized the love of impermanent things. He reminded people of their moral obligation to focus on love, forgiveness, helping others, charity, contentment, inner peace and devotion to the God and Guru.

His teachings are based on two important principles, called “Shraddha” and “Saburi”. Below an explanation of it, as well as a number of views of Shirdi Sai Baba.

SHRADDHA
“Shraddha” is a Sanskrit word, which roughly means: “faith with love and reverence”. According to Shirdi Sai Baba, steadfast love of God is the gateway to eternity. Sai Baba’s teaching is a reflection of the meaning of Shraddha.

SABURI
“Saburi” means “patience and perseverance”. Saburi is a quality that according to Shirdi Sai Baba is needed on the long road to the ultimate goal. This quality is necessary from the first day of the search. If there is no Saburi, one cannot stay on the path of devotion.
Shri Sai Baba said to Chandorkar (see the book: Shri Sai Gyaneshwari): “We must remain stable and calm and not get impatient. Only then the sorrows and sufferings, happiness and joy will not affect us and will not bother us. Know that these are all natural occurences. Everything in this world belongs to God and nothing belongs to us. If we remain patient, sorrow and sufferings will not affect us and we will remain in ultimate bliss. And this is the truth. Keeping yourself in the free state is the path of liberation.”

COMPLETE SURRENDER TO THE GURU
Shirdi Sai Baba speaks respectfully of the guru and asks for complete surrender to the Master. The belief and confidence in the Master is the first step of devotion to God. “The words and teachings of the Guru are essential for self-purification and spiritual growth.”

ACCEPTANCE OF DEATH
Shri Sai Baba said to Mrs. Kulkarni when her husband was dying (see the book: Shri Sai Gyaneshwari): “Do not lament. The one who is born will have to die. Birth and death are under the laws and control of God. Everyone has to leave this world one day. After the end of this life, another life begins, so why you are grieving and getting depressed? The soul in the body never dies, nor is it born. It just continues its journey to the next destination.”

RESPECT FOR PARENTS
Shri Sai Baba said to Chandorkar (see the book: Shri Sai Gyaneshwari): “Respecting your parents is equivalent to thousands of pilgrimages. Worship your mother as a Goddess and your father as a God. Bow your head before them every day and seek their blessings. They represent God on earth en they are the ones who brought you into this world.”

GOD IS OMNIPRESENT
Shri Sai Baba taught Chandorkar (see the book: Shri Sai Gyaneshwari) and said: “God is omnipresent. There is no place where God is not there, but due to the influence of Maya and the lack of proper knowledge, intelligence diminishes and the ignorant people get attracted to worldly pursuits. They lose the capacity to know and understand Almighty God. As a result of ignorance, the person does not believe in the existence of God.
Therefore, discard ill feelings about one another and remember that God is present everywhere and in everyone. You will feel everyone is like you and there is no difference between you and others.”

LAW OF DESTINY
When Chandorkar said that he wished not to continue his wordlyl life, Sai Baba taught him (see the book: Shri Sai Gyaneshwari): “You are yourself the reason for your present situation. The accumulated Karma of past life has made your Destiny. According to your Destiny, this body and the situations are created.  You are actually born to bear the fruits of your past Karma and there is no escape from them at all. By the end of life, you must finish all your responsibilities and debts, so that the birth and death cycle is over. Don’t leave any responsibility incomplete for which you might have to take birth again. Try to get rid of the attachments and bindings before your body collapses.”
